Delhi faces hot and humid weather with light rain possible on Sunday

New Delhi: Delhiites faced another hot and humid day on Saturday with the heat index reaching 40.8 degrees Celsius by 2.30pm. Parts of the city may see very light rain on Sunday, with a reduction in rainfall activity from Monday onwards. The maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded at 35.9 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal and the highest day temperature this month. The relative humidity oscillated between 48% and 87%. The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.2 degrees Celsius.

“There is a possibility of very light rain on Sunday with the city experiencing a partly cloudy sky,” said a Met official, adding that rain activity will see a drop from Sept 15 till 19. The maximum temperature over the next few days is expected to go up to 35 degrees Celsius with the heat index on the higher side. No colour-coded warning has been issued for the next few days. The monsoon’s average withdrawal from the city is Sept 25. This year so far, the city logged 850.8 mm of rainfall as opposed to the month’s normal of 640.4 mm. The city has already witnessed excess rainfall this season. Meanwhile, the air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category, with the AQI at 109 on Saturday as against 108 a day earlier. It is likely to remain in the same range over the next few days, according to the air quality early warning system, the forecasting body under the ministry of earth sciences.
