Residents protest against poor conditions of Mumbai’s Ghodbunder Highway, demanding action

Thane: Residents of a few plush societies along the Ghodbunder Highway staged an agitation on Friday morning, trying to divert the attention of the administration towards the failing condition of the arterial road. This road is frequently plagued with snarls, leaving city office-goers and school children to endure unnecessary delays. The residents, gathered under a citizen initiative called Justice for Ghodbunder without any political support, said they have now given a week’s time to the authorities to resolve the issue of damaged roads, the proliferation of freight vehicles on the highway during peak hours, and traffic management.Girish Patil, one of the protestors, said, “The movement of trucks during peak hours and the shabby repair works done by the authorities, due to which potholes resurface, is causing massive inconvenience to motorists. We suffer a lot and end up spending a lot of time travelling to work and back home. The city is home to the deputy CM and a transport minister but still faces a lack of better roads, which is disappointing,” he said. The agitators said they have been assured by Shinde of a hearing in the next few days. “We have warned the authorities of staging a bitter protest in the coming days with participation from thousands of fellow residents who have been enduring the traffic congestion for years together,” said Patil while talking to the media.
