Goa is set to host its first ever international street race as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced the ‘Goa Street Race 2025’: a 3.214 km oceanfront circuit at Headland Sada, Bogda, as the official venue for Round 4 of the Indian Racing Festival (IRF). The race will take place from November 1 to 2, 2025.On the sidelines of the MoU signing between the Goa government and RPPL, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and RPPL Chairman and Managing Director Akhilesh Reddy shared their views. Reddy spoke with us about expectations, investments and more.
FIA standard circuit with expansion and night race capability
Reddy detailed the technical aspects: “The track is 3.214 km long with around 12 to 14 turns, mostly fast corners. It will be FIA Grade 3 certified and built completely to FIA safety norms, including barriers, concrete blocks and debris fencing that will be imported from Europe.”On weather challenges, he said, “Goa and Chennai have similar humid climates. Since we already run races in Chennai, we know how to handle it.” He added that Formula 4 cars are expected to reach speeds of 180 to 190 kmph, while design provisions allow for both night racing and future expansion. Spectator capacity will be around 15000 to 20000, with additional standing stands.
Investment and government support
The total investment stands at Rs 127 crore, with Rs 27 crore allocated for licensing and related expenses, Rs 25 crore contributed by the Goa government towards infrastructure, and the remaining 70 percent funded by RPPL. Around 70 percent of the investment has come from our side, Reddy said, including debris fences, barriers, electronics, cars and drivers. The government has invested a part, while the rest has been borne by RPPL.
The CM confirmed that Goa has signed a three year agreement. “Whatever budget we have allocated this year, we will continue for another two years. The budget will be less in future as infrastructure is a one time investment,” he said.On timelines, Reddy noted, “In general it takes three to three and a half months to prepare a street circuit. Here, 70 percent of the track is isolated, so we can finish faster. Once the race is done, it only takes 15 to 20 days to remove everything, and the public can use the road from the next day.”
Long term impact and tourism boost
Sawant said the infrastructure will continue to benefit Goa. “It can be used for marathons, cyclothons and other sporting events. This will add sports tourism to Goa’s identity beyond sun, sand and sea,” he said.Reddy added, “The idea is to increase footfall for motorsport and give a push to the sport. Goa will be the first state to support motorsport at this scale. With celebrity team owners like Sourav Ganguly, John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor and Sudeep, the race will attract even more people.”On legacy, the Chief Minister concluded, “This event will not only generate revenue but also showcase Goa as a global sporting destination with strong international visibility.”
