‘Terror Module Planned Fidayeen Attacks’

New Delhi: The terror module busted by Delhi Police‘s special cell was allegedly at an advanced stage of carrying out assassinations of two right-wing politicians, of whom one is a Shiv Sena leader. The suspects are radicalised and at least two members had agreed to turn into fidayeens, police revealed on Thursday.The group was trying to acquire land for building a clandestine terror training camp in Jharkhand as part of its objective of establishing an Islamic caliphate and achieve ‘Gazwa-e-Hind’ — the battle to conquer India — additional commissioner Pramod Kushwaha said.Huzaifa Yaman, a 20-year-old B Pharma student from Telangana, and Kamran Qureshi (25), from Madhya Pradesh, are among five suspects arrested on terror charges. Three others in the net are Danish from Ranchi (23), Sufian Abubakar (20) from Mumbra and Aftab Qureshi (25) from Kalyan, Maharashtra. All five have been sent to police remand of 12 days.Delhi Police said the special cell had been using surveillance to identify potential terror operatives, such as radicalised youths active on social media. While pursuing leads from credible sources, a terror module with operational footprints in Delhi, Ranchi, Thane, Nizamabad and Rajgarh was identified, it said. “The members possessed significant knowledge on preparing gunpowder and fabricating IEDs. Some has expressed willingness to sacrifice their lives in pursuit of establishing a caliphate,” additional CP Kushwaha said. The group’s objective was to recruit people to carry out blasts and targeted killings. The group was receiving funding through hawala channels. Danish was attempting to procure weapons from Delhi-NCR and chemical substances from agro-chemical shops and online platforms. He had recently injured his eyes during IED testing, sources said.Intensive surveillance was mounted, supplemented with inputs from sources. Physical surveillance of the suspects was done. Advance teams, with inspectors Vinay Pal and Manoj Kumar, were deployed to track them. Finally, raids were done, leading to arrests.Danish was arrested in Ranchi. IED-making components and chemical substances were found in his rented room. He was receiving instructions from a Pakistan-based handler, named Rehan, police said.Yaman was arrested in Nizamabad, Telangana. He disclosed his involvement in experiments related to manufacturing arms and ammunition under the guidance of Danish. Kamran. alias Samar Khan, was arrested in Rajgarh, MP. Sufian and Aftab were nabbed in Delhi. The police have seized hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sodium bicarbonate, and sulphur powder, which are used for making IEDs. “Other seized items include a pH value checker, ball bearings, four knives, Rs 10,500, a weighing machine, a beaker set, safety gloves and a respiratory mask. A box containing strip wires, circuit, motherboard, diodes and copper were also found,” Kushwaha added. Police here acknowledged the role of anti-terror units in other states in facilitating the raids. The operation comes in the aftermath of Delhi Police commissioner Satish Golcha instructing the special cell to crack down on terrorist activities and the gangster nexus.
