Focus Features has unveiled the first trailer for Song Sung Blue, an upcoming romance drama that pairs Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson as two struggling musicians who find new purpose, and each other, through a Neil Diamond tribute band. The film, written and directed by Craig Brewer, will arrive in theaters on December 25.

Based on a true story, Song Sung Blue follows Mike Sardina (Jackman), a hairdresser-turned-entertainer, and Claire Stengl (Hudson), a restless dreamer determined to make music her life. The two join forces to perform Diamond’s hits, forming the band Lightning & Thunder. Along the way, their shared passion for performance sparks an unexpected romance.

Brewer, best known for Hustle & Flow, Dolemite Is My Name and Coming 2 America, both writes and directs. The film is described as a jukebox musical, blending Diamond’s catalog with an original story about reinvention. It follows in the vein of films like Blinded by the Light, which celebrated Bruce Springsteen fandom through a fictional lens.

The ensemble also includes Michael Imperioli, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir, and Hudson Hensley, with Fisher Stevens and Jim Belushi appearing in supporting roles. Brewer produces alongside John Davis and John Fox.

The film marks another chance for Jackman to showcase his singing abilities, familiar to audiences from The Greatest Showman and his Broadway work. For Hudson, it offers a return to musical storytelling, nearly two decades after her breakout in Almost Famous.
