Delhi: Fire breaks out at Pizza hut in Yamuna Vihar; 5 sustain burn injuries

NEW DELHI: Five people sustained minor burn injuries after a fire broke out outside at a pizza outlet in northeast Delhi’s Yamuna Vihar on Monday night, police said. The blaze, triggered by a short circuit, also caused a small LPG cylinder to explode.According to the police, the incident was reported at 9pm from outside the restaurant. “By the time police and fire brigade reached, the staff had already managed to control the flames which were outside Pizza Hut,” the police officer said.Preliminary inquiry revealed that a tea vendor, who operates near the restaurant’s staircase, stored his goods and an LPG cylinder next to the electricity meters.

A suspected short circuit in the wiring ignited the material kept at the spot. “The fire spread quickly and led to a cylinder blast. Three employees and two passersby sustained burn injuries on their hands. They were taken to GTB Hospital and were discharged after receiving first aid”, the officer added.
