Pune: A criminal on the Pune rural police records allegedly shot at a contractor at Ekvira Chowk in Keshvnagar in Wadgaon Maval around 6.45pm on Monday following a dispute over the latter’s cousin escorting a schoolgirl home. The contractor, Akshay Mohite (28) from Keshvnagar, escaped unharmed. Police have charged the criminal, Saurav Waghmare, with attempt to murder among other sections. Inspector Kumar Kadam from the Wadgaon Maval police station said Mohite’s cousin and the girl study in the same school.“After school hours on Monday, the cousin escorted the girl to her residence in Sangvi village. Displeased with this, Waghmare and his three accomplices forced the cousin into their car where they abused and attacked him. They compelled him to call the contractor, stating that he was with them. They later dropped him at Ekvira Chowk and sped away,” Kadam said.Later, the four men, riding two bikes, returned to Ekvira Chowk and saw the contractor chatting with his friends. An argument broke out between the contractor and the suspects over the issue of dropping the girl, the police officer said.“Waghmare pulled out a country-made pistol and fired the first bullet at Mohite, but it misfired. The second bullet missed the target as it passed over Mohite,” Kadam said, adding that the contractor and his friends immediately fled the scene.A police team found a casing and a live bullet from the crime scene, he said. “Teams have been formed to arrest the suspects,” Kadam said.An FIR under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 352, and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 3(25) and 27 of the Arms Act was registered against the four people, police said.
