New Delhi: A Delhi court initiated contempt proceedings against a Delhi Police officer for allegedly not following its directions to register an FIR against a private firm and MCD officials.Judicial magistrate Rishabh Kapoor was hearing a complaint filed by Sushil Kumar Gupta in 2024 against a firm, Pineview Technology Private Limited. Gupta alleged that his vehicle was illegally picked up by the company, which was hired on a contract basis by MCD, despite the Supreme Court providing interim relief. The apex court on Aug 12 barred police and other authorities from taking any coercive action against owners plying petrol vehicles aged over 15 years and diesel ones more than 10 years old.The court had earlier directed the SHO of Vikaspuri, Rajveer Singh, to register a case for the offences of theft and common intention against the company and officials concerned. On Sept 8, the court said there was no stay by any superior court on its order regarding issuing a show-cause notice to the SHO and for calling a report from the joint commissioner of police concerned regarding the official’s conduct.Observing that despite two categorical orders, the cop failed to register an FIR, disregarding the court’s lawful order and the statutory mandate, the magistrate said that the official also obstructed the administration of justice, besides causing annoyance to the complainant and the court. The next hearing of the matter is scheduled for Oct 3.The police contended that the directions by the apex court were given a year after the incident took place and that an e-FIR relating to theft was already lodged by Gupta, and hence, there was no need for another FIR in the matter.
