Mumbai: From Sept 21, BMC’s public health department will offer marriage registration services on weekends from 9am to 1pm, an official statement said on Tuesday.Additionally, it will launch fast-track marriage registration services, which will be available on weekdays, wherein 20% of the daily slots will be reserved for same-day registration and certificate issuance.To access either service, couples will have to complete all documentation, pay the regular registration fee, along with an additional Rs 2,500, and appear in person with witnesses, said civic officials.According to civic data, 30,000-35,000 marriages are registered annually with the BMC, a low number compared to the number of weddings taking place throughout the year in the city. When the civic administration looked into the reasons for the low number of registrations, it found that many couples avoided marriage registration due to time constraints — the working class as well as professionals need to take time off work to personally come to the civic office to register their marriage on weekdays. To reduce these inconveniences, BMC decided to launch the weekend and fast-track marriage registration services.Mumbaikars can avail the weekend marriage registration services on Saturdays at 13 BMC ward offices — A, C, E, F-South, G-South, H-East, K-East, P-South, P-North, R-Central, L, M-West, and S — and on Sundays at 12 BMC ward offices — B, D, F-North, G-North, H-West, K-West, P-East, R-South, R-North, N, M-East, and T, said civic officials.MSID:: 123791452 413 |
