1 dead and 5 injured by electric shock during Ganpati procession in Mumbai's Sakinaka

MUMBAI: One died while five others suffered electric burns after coming into contact with live electric wires in Sakinaka on Saturday night, police said.The incident occurred at 10.45 pm when six members of the Ganpati procession were heading for the immersion of the idol, according to Sakinaka police, who have registered a case of accidental death and are probing the matter.During the procession organised by Gajanan Mitra Mandal from Kachara Galli, Sakinaka, Binu Sukumaran (37), resident of Gilbert Compound, Sakinaka, died of electrocution. Among those who suffered electric burns was six-year-old Aarush Gupta, while Dharmaraj Gupta (49), Tushar Gupta (20), Shambhu Kami (20), and Karan Kanojia (14) are undergoing treatment.A police officer stated that the procession reached near Sanman Hotel on Khairani Road when six persons suffered electric shock while lifting wires from the Ganpati trolley. “Five have been admitted to Paramount Hospital in Sakinaka and are stable. One was admitted to Seven Hills Hospital, Andheri (East), where he has been declared dead,” the officer said.DCP Datta Nalawade said a case of accidental death has been registered by the Sakinaka police.
