Andheri mandal marks golden jubilee with skit on women empowerment

MUMBAI: A Ganpati mandal from Andheri that is celebrating its golden jubilee has showcased 11 forms of Lord Ganesh over 11 days with an eco-friendly idol made from tissue paper, guar gum and alum.Riddhi Siddhi Mandal from JB Nagar in Andheri (E) has also created a 15-minute live drama titled ‘Vinayaki’. It shows how a woman’s multi-tasking life involving balancing family and work can take a toll of her personal well-being.“The live musical follows Ragini, a young woman who sets aside her passion for music under parental presure and gets married. As responsibilities increase, she tries to keep everyone happy, but her efforts are taken for granted. At the point of breakdown, she rediscovers her passion for singing and becomes a social media sensation,” said a press release.The skit was scripted by mandal volunteers, with Marathi theatre artiste Disha Dinde playing the protagonist.“Riddhi Siddhi has a tradition of addressing social issues through live skits, covering topics such as mental health awareness, family bonding, political party-hopping, crumbling urban infrastructure, support for transgenders and verifying fake news,” said organiser Dinesh Chindarkar.Another organiser Kiran Patel said, “We perform visarjan in an artificial pond to avoid polluting the sea.”
