2 held in doc robbery-murder case

New Delhi: Delhi Police‘s crime branch has arrested two persons allegedly involved in a murder and robbery case registered at Hazrat Nizamuddin police station. The suspects, identified as Pankaj Narjari (30) and Prem Bahadur Nepali (42), were nabbed after a chase spanning almost 3,000 km from near Dudhwa National Park to the Dhangadhi border in Nepal. The case relates to the murder of a general physician, Dr Yogesh Chander Paul, who was found dead at his residence in Jangpura Extension on May 10, 2024. Investigators found out that the two, along with a domestic help, were involved in the crime. Prem Bahadur, who was the mastermind, had concealed his identity even from his co-accused. Narjari, a resident of Assam’s Sonitpur, was absconding and carried a bounty of Rs 50,000. Prem Bahadur, a resident of Nepal, has a criminal history of multiple burglaries. Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Harsh Indora said the investigation team, led by inspector Pankaj Thakran, used surveillance and manual intelligence to track the suspects. The suspects have admitted that they formed a gang to carry out house burglaries in Delhi, Uttarakhand Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The gang entered houses by employing Nepalese women as maids to obtain information on cash and jewellery. Narjari and Prem Bahadur were declared offenders in earlier cases. Two other suspects, each with a bounty of Rs 50,000, remain at large. The suspects had reportedly followed the doctor from his clinic, located near his residence. They entered the house around 1.30 pm and remained there for nearly two hours. Between 3.30 pm and 4 pm, they exited in groups of two after committing the crime. The alleged assailants stole 116-140 grams of gold, along with Rs 5 lakh cash. The murder came to light around 6.30 pm, when the doctor’s wife came home. Narjari moved to Delhi in 2006 and took up odd jobs. In 2016, he was arrested after a robbery in Mayapuri. He reportedly formed connections with Prem Bahadur while in jail. After his release in 2022, he married Chhema Lama and had a daughter. Prem Bahadur was arrested in 2007 for an attempted dacoity and a motor vehicle theft. He was again arrested in a robbery case and then allegedly began burgling homes.
