Pune: All five dams that supply water to PMC limits and two dams — Pavana and Andra — that provide water to PCMC areas were 100% full on Thursday. This is the first time in the ongoing season that the water stocks in all the dams has been maintained at full capacities by the irrigation department.The water stock in Khadakwasla dam reached its maximum storage capacity of 1.97 TMC on Thursday afternoon, which prompted the irrigation department to release water into the Mutha river at a rate of 2,140 cusecs. Four dams in the Khadakwasla circle, including Temghar, Panshet, Varasgaon, and Khadakwasla, can hold 29.15 TMC of water. The collective stock was at full capacity on Thursday evening. The storage in Bhama Askhed dam, which supplies water to the city’s eastern parts, was recorded at 7.67 TMC (100%), prompting a discharge of water at a rate of 660 cusecs.The irrigation department alerted the PMC and PCMC about a possible increase in water discharges. “Since the storages in dams are 100%, we have asked administrations to be on alert,” an official said.
