Pune: Hadapsar police detected five chain snatching cases following the arrest of two men from Mhada taluka in Solapur district. Police recovered five gold chains, two bikes with fictitious number plates, masks, a black haversack, and a screwdriver collectively valued at over Rs7 lakhs from criminal on record Dnyaneshwar Chavan (23) and his aide Aniket Chavan (24) from Solapur.Senior inspector Sanjay Mogle said on Thursday, that a series of incidents relating to chain snatching were reported in crowded and isolated localities at Shewalewadi, Gadital, Mahadev Temple, and Manjari areas on the Pune-Solapur Highway in the last six months. Mogle stated that two masked men riding on a bike snatched gold chains from women and fled to Solapur. Analysis of CCTV footage and descriptions of the chain snatchers and bikes used in all the cases were similar.Multiple police teams laid traps under sub inspector Hasan Mulani and Satyavan Gend at crowded localities, resulting in the arrest on September 1. The duo, during questioning, admitted their involvement in five chain snatching cases, he said.Chavan has 16 previous cases registered against him with various police stations in the city. He, along with his aide, snatched chains to get fast money, he added.
