New Delhi: Nearly a year after a man was found dead at a factory in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar, Delhi Police has registered a murder case following a court order. The case, initially treated as a suicide, was reopened after the victim’s mother approached the court, alleging foul play. The deceased’s mother, a resident of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, alleged that her son was murdered and the case was wrongly portrayed as a suicide. She suspected the involvement of the factory owner and four others.According to police sources, on July 10, 2024, the man was found dead at a utensil manufacturing factory where he worked. The suspicious death occurred sometime between 11 pm and 11.30 pm that night, said police.Following the discovery, police initially conducted an inquiry based on statements from relatives and the postmortem report. The doctor’s report indicated the cause of death as “combined effect of asphyxia and venous congestion consequent to ante-mortem ligature hanging.” Based on this, the police proceeded under 194 BNS (police to enquire and report on suicide, etc).However, the victim’s mother told the police that on the day of his death, he communicated with his family and was reportedly in good health and active at work. Unsatisfied with the police investigation, the deceased’s mother moved the court alleging foul play and accusing four men of conspiring to murder her son and covering up the crime as suicide. The court reviewed the complaint and expressed dissatisfaction with the earlier inquiry, noting that it disclosed a cognizable offence of a grave nature. Consequently, the court ordered the SHO of Ashok Vihar to register a First Information Report (FIR) under Section of murder within 24 hours of receiving the order, thereby reopening the investigation into the case.
