MP, MLAs from Pimpri Chinchwad suggest changes for Nigdi-Chakan Metro project

Pune: The local MP and MLAs from Pimpri Chinchwad on Monday suggested modifications of certain alignments while executing the proposed Nigdi-Chakan Metro route. The elected representatives also demanded provisions for better commuter convenience at Bhujbhal Chowk and Wakad junction, removal of potential obstructions in Bhosari, and demolition of the flyover in Bhosari if required. Further, Maha Metro officials were asked to ensure adequate parking facilities near Metro stations, a review of the Nashik Phata–Bhosari Metro route alignment, and to check if the Godown Chowk–Chakan alignment model could be implemented on this stretch. The suggestions were put forth during a joint meeting held by elected representatives and officials from PCMC and Maha Metro to discuss the Nigdi-Chakan Metro project. Local MP Shrirang Barne, MLAs Mahesh Landge, Shankar Jagtap and Uma Khapre, as well as deputy speaker of the state Legislative Assembly Anna Bansode were present. The detailed project report (DPR) for the route was recently submitted to PCMC by Maha Metro. After Monday’s meeting, PCMC commissioner Shekhar Singh told TOI, “Based on the inputs received from public representatives, the report will be forwarded to state govt for further action. A meeting with the CM will also be scheduled soon to take the proposal ahead.” Elected representatives also suggested introducing six-coach trains on the route instead of three-coaches. Some additional stations were also proposed on the route, including one at Bhosari, to benefit commuters. The DPR includes several key routes aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity: Bhakti Shakti Chowk–Mukai Chowk, Kiwale–Bhujbhal Chowk, Wakad Sai Chowk, Jagtap Dairy–Kokane Chowk, Nashik Phata–Sant Tukaram Nagar Chowk, Gawali Matha Chowk, Bhosari District Centre, and Godown Chowk–Chakan.
