New Delhi: Students aspiring to study at Veer Savarkar College in Najafgarh, under Delhi University, will now have to wait another year. Admissions for the 2024–25 academic session have been postponed due to pending approvals for teaching positions. University officials have confirmed that classes will now commence with the 2025–26 academic session.The administration had expected to receive the necessary clearances by the end of Aug, after which the admission process would have begun. However, with no approval yet from the relevant authorities, admissions have been put on hold. The university is now aiming to launch the college in the next academic cycle.Delhi University has already approved the introduction of two undergraduate programmes at Veer Savarkar College: BSc (Hons) Computer Science and Bachelor of Business Administration (Financial Investment Analysis). However, teaching can only begin once the ministry of education and the ministry of finance approve the recruitment of faculty.A senior DU official stated that the university is still awaiting the required clearances for faculty appointments. He added that if approvals are received in time, admissions could begin in Jan 2025, and the college will be included in the official admission notification for the 2025–26 session.The newly constructed campus, located near the existing South Campus, has been built at a cost of Rs 140 crore. It features 24 classrooms, eight tutorial rooms, four seminar halls, a computer centre, and a canteen.The foundation stones for this project, along with those for the new East Campus in Surajmal Vihar and the academic extension in Dwarka’s Sector 22, were laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jan. During the ceremony, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and vice-chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh announced a special reservation: two seats in each course will be reserved for residents of Roshanpura village, in recognition of the villagers’ land donation for the college. One seat each will be set aside for a male and a female student from the village.With existing campuses in the north and south of the city, Delhi University is now expanding its footprint to the east and west Delhi. The proposed East Campus will be located in Surajmal Vihar, and the West Campus in Dwarka.
