Bar body suspends strike by lawyers

New Delhi: After meeting a representative of Union home minister Amit Shah, New Delhi Bar Association on Thursday suspended its six-day strike by lawyers in district courts over a notification issued by the lieutenant governor on police virtually presenting evidence in court.“This is to inform that during the continuous, tireless and strong agitation against the notification dated Aug 13 issued by LG”, the bar association was assured on Thursday that Shah would meet its representatives to discuss, address and resolve their concerns, the association stated in a communication. The strike started on Aug 22.Association secretary Tarun Rana said a statement was also issued by the Delhi Police commissioner clarifying that the notification would become operational after all stakeholders were heard. Delhi Police stated that Delhi govt had issued a notification designating all police stations in the city as places fit for presenting evidence and deposing before courts through videoconferencing by police personnel.The coordination committee of All District Courts Bar Association of Delhi raised concerns about the move and wrote to LG and the chief minister on Aug 18. It again wrote to LG on Aug 20.
