PCMC likely to restart ayurveda OPD

Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is likely to restart ayurvedic outpatient department (OPD) which closed during Covid-19 at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH).The decision is being explored after BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe, along with several ayurveda practitioners, met the PCMC commissioner to press for its revival last week.A senior official from the civic medical department said the facility’s only senior ayurveda practitioner retired during Covid-19. Since there was no replacement appointed, the facility shut down. “We are considering restarting the facility. It is yet to be decided whether it would be at YCMH or elsewhere,” the official said.Gorkhe, who also raised the matter in Assembly, urged the civic body to start both ayurveda and homeopathy OPDs to offer patients more treatment choices. “After I raised the issue in the Assembly, the state govt wrote to PCMC. We then met the civic chief, who has directed his team to take steps to make ayurveda OPDs available at civic hospitals,” he told TOI.
