Pune: NCP (SP) workers as well as local residents staged an agitation at the PMC office on Tuesday against erratic supply of water in Wadgaonsheri.They demanded that the authorities take urgent steps to improve the supply as frequent interruptions and water closures were hampering daily schedules of citizens.NCP (SP) MLA Bapu Pathare also joined the agitation to draw the attention of civic officials. Later, a delegation led by Pathare held a meeting with officials from PMC’s water supply department to discuss the issues faced by citizens. Pathare said that the problems were discussed in detail with the authorities.“We highlighted that the water supply has been erratic. The works to augment water distribution are on a slow track, adversely impacting overall supply. The water availability has not been equal in all areas, as some pockets receive very little water,” he said.Pathare said that the water supply department officials have assured solutions to most issues by next month. Areas in Wadgaonsheri receive water from Bhama Askhed project. Some pockets in Kharadi get water from Cantonment Water Works. PMC recently introduced some changes in the water schedule; however, the changes were suspended following complaints from citizens.Former corporator from the area, Mahendra Pathare, said, “Erratic and low-pressure water availability has been a major issue, and despite repeated attempts, the civic administration has not been able to resolve the problem fully. We want a solution to these issues. Citizens are ready to extend support to the authorities to overcome water-related problems.”Local citizen Rajendra Khandve said that people are spending a lot of money on water tankers. The civic administration is not managing the supply properly, as there are lapses in the distribution network. “Citizens will resort to a bigger agitation if there is no improvement in water supply by next month,” he said.
