Until then, the status quo will be maintained.“In view of representations by the student bodies, the competent authority constituted a committee to look into the matter,” the university said in a notification on Monday. The move comes amid continuing protests by JNU Students’ Union against the introduction of a face recognition system for library access. On Friday, tensions escalated when the library’s entry gate was vandalised. The matter was referred to the proctor’s office for investigation. The library department submitted a detailed report recommending action against students allegedly involved while security officials were asked to provide a full account of events. The administration earlier said the face recognition system was intended to curb unauthorised entries and enhance security. The work on the project was underway for nearly three years, it added further. The installation triggered sharp opposition from students. tnn
