New Delhi: BJP spokesperson and head of the media department, Praveen Shankar Kapoor, has appealed to chief minister Rekha Gupta to organise a special “Chandni Chowk Mahotsav” at the end of Dec. In his letter, Kapoor has noted that for the past six months, Delhi govt has been working towards the city’s development and is promoting its culture, heritage, and commerce globally.He said Chandni Chowk represents a unique blend of religious sites, traditional businesses and culinary heritage. The area was also home to legendary poets such as Mirza Ghalib and poets of the modern era such as Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Suresh Sharma, making it a place of literary pride as well.Kapoor proposed that govt allow shops in Chandni Chowk to remain open till midnight during the week-long festival. He suggested arrangements for cultural performances such as qawwali and musical events in different areas of Chandni Chowk to attract visitors.Kapoor pointed to the historical importance of Chandni Chowk and recommended the formation of a committee, under the leadership of MP Praveen Khandelwal to ensure the organisation of the mahotsav.
