New Delhi: A day after being attacked, chief minister Rekha Gupta shared an emotional statement, recalling a childhood car accident and her father’s words: “You can’t stop walking the path out of fear.” The Delhi CM was attacked by a man on Wednesday when she was conducting a public hearing at her residence in Civil Lines. She said that public hearings will not just happen at her residence, but in every assembly constituency of Delhi.In a post on X, she said, “When I was in college, my father gave me a car to drive. One day, I had a serious accident. I was shaken, and after that, I was afraid to even touch the car again. At that time, my father said, ‘Accidents happen in life, but you must not stop because of fear. You can’t stop walking on the path’.” She said: “Today, I am reminded of that same lesson again. There was another unfortunate incident yesterday, but I will never stop fighting for the rights of Delhi’s people. Every moment of my life and every particle of my being is dedicated to Delhi. Despite all these unexpected blows, I will never abandon Delhi.” She said, “After all, women have a double strength to fight through hardships. They have to prove themselves through countless tests. I am ready too! Now, public hearings will not just happen at my residence, but in every assembly constituency of Delhi. Your chief minister, at your doorstep.” The assault on the chief minister happened on Wednesday morning at the CM’s Civil Lines camp office during a public interaction. The Delhi CMO said that the attack appeared to be part of a “well-planned conspiracy to kill her.” Gupta was taken to hospital for a medical examination following the incident. Police officials said the accused, identified as 41-year-old Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakriya from Rajkot, Gujarat, is currently in five-day police custody. An attempt-to-murder case under sections 109(1), 132, and 221 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against him. Police records show he has a criminal history with five cases, including a knife attack, against him. In a post on X after the incident, Gupta described the assault as a “cowardly attempt” not just on her, but on her govt’s commitment to serve the people. She added that while she was initially shaken, she is now recovering and will soon resume her duties.
