Pune: A 30-year-old woman was found hanging from the ceiling of her flat in Wakad on Monday night. The Wakad police arrested her husband, a software engineer, and her father-in-law on charges of dowry death and abetment to suicide. A case was also registered against her mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law. The woman’s brother lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.Deputy commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad police Vishal Patil said the woman married in 2022. According to the complainant, her husband and in-laws harassed her because she was not employed. They forced her to do all household work. The complainant also mentioned that the accused harassed his sister to obtain money from her parents for buying furniture in their flat. “The woman could not suffer the harassment and hanged herself from the ceiling of her flat in Wakad on Monday night,” Gaikwad said.An officer from the Wakad police said the woman’s mother claimed that her daughter’s her in-laws took 400 grams of gold from them during marriage. Despite this, they continued to harass her daughter. “We have arrested her husband and father-in-law. A search is on for others,” the officer said.
