New Delhi: A 38-year-old woman was strangled to death by her husband in northwest Delhi’s Bawana on Sunday, after he found that she was allegedly having an affair with his cousin.According to police, PCR received a call reporting the murder at Bawana police station around 1.30 pm on June 1. “Police rushed to the spot and found a woman’s body lying in a room of a rented accommodation,” a senior officer said, adding, “The body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem.“A case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered, and an investigation was initiated. The woman, who worked at a local factory, lived in the house with her husband, Beerpal (38), and their four children.Preliminary probe revealed that the body was discovered after the couple’s 18-year-old daughter, also employed at a factory, was unable to reach her mother by phone. When her calls to her father also went unanswered, she grew worried and asked her father’s cousin, who lives in the locality, to check on them, said police.According to police, when the cousin reached the house, he found the door unlocked. Inside, he discovered the woman’s lifeless body. Her husband and three younger children were also missing. He immediately informed the police, cops said.“During further investigation, family members told police that the woman had allegedly been in a relationship with her husband’s cousin. Though the husband had earlier asked her to end the affair, and she told him she had, he recently learned they were still in touch,” the senior police officer added. The accused, Beerpal, was traced to Moradabad and arrested while he was attempting to flee to Shahjahanpur, UP, with his three children.“During interrogation, he told police that he and his wife got into a quarrel over the affair. In a fit of rage, while the children were playing outside in the street, he strangled her with a chunni,” the officer said.Further probe in the case is underway.
