Nepalese national held for assaulting software engr

Pune: A 30-year-old Nepalese national was arrested on Sunday on the charge of assaulting a software engineer (27) with a beer bottle late on Saturday night on the premises of a paying guest (PG) accommodation in Hinjewadi.The victim suffered a fracture to his jaw, besides head injuries. The attack was the fallout of the victim’s altercations with the accused in the afternoon, the Hinjewadi police said.The accused, a domestic help, was charged under Section 118 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of BNS. Sub-inspector Dnyaneshwar Zol of the Hinjewadi police said the victim, hailing from Ghazipur in UP, had been working in an IT company in Hinjewadi for the past four years. A couple from Nepal worked as domestic helps at the PG accommodation where he had been staying. “The software engineer told us that he had requested the woman help at the PG accommodation on Saturday to tie a Rakhi to him, sent by his sister,” Zol said. He said the couple invited the victim to their room, where the woman’s two relatives were already there. All of them had liquor and lunch there. One of the relatives of the woman suddenly charged towards the software engineer and pushed him, following which he left the room.“When the techie went to the terrace on the same night, the suspect and two others were having liquor, and the accused attacked him with a broken beer bottle. He suffered a fracture to his jaw and injuries on head in the attack,” Zol said.He said the manager of the PG accommodation took the victim to a hospital. After treatment, the software engineer on Sunday lodged a complaint against the man. “We have arrested the suspect,” he said.
