NEW DELHI: The Minto Bridge underpass, a regular monsoon trouble spot for decades, stayed free of waterlogging on Saturday even as heavy rain swept across the capital and disrupted flight operations.The railway underbridge, at the junction of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Marg and Swami Vivekananda Marg, connects Connaught Place with New Delhi station, Old Delhi and Darya Ganj. Usually among the first to flood during a downpour, it remains on the Public Works Department’s (PWD) high-priority watchlist. This year, however, it has not seen a single instance of waterlogging.A video shared by news agency ANI showed vehicles moving smoothly through the stretch — a stark contrast to the images of stranded buses and submerged cars that have become synonymous with the location during past monsoons.
Rain batters several parts of Delhi-NCR
The morning showers disrupted air travel, with data from Flightradar showing about 90 flight delays and four cancellations. Waterlogging was reported at several points, including Mathura Road and outside Bharat Mandapam’s Gate No. 7, while heavy rain was recorded in Shastri Bhawan, R.K. Puram, Moti Bagh and Kidwai Nagar.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city is likely to see thunderstorms with rain through the day, with temperatures ranging between 25°C and 33°C. More spells of rain are expected later in the evening.Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an orange alert for August 11 and 12 in three Himachal Pradesh districts, warning of heavy rainfall. A yellow alert has been sounded for the remaining districts.
