PUNE: A one-day free legal awareness camp was organised at Bhudwadi village in Maval taluka by the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit and Legal Aid Committee of DES Shri Navalmal Firodia Law College, Pune. The main objective of this initiative was to spread awareness among the rural population about their fundamental legal rights. The camp received an overwhelming response from the villagers.The program was conducted under the able guidance of Adv. Ashok Palande, Vice President of DES Governing Council and Chairman of the College Development Committee, and strong leadership of the college Principal Dr. Sunita Adhav. Dr. Neeta Ahir, NSS Programme Officer and Coordinator of the Legal Aid Committee, along with Asst. Prof. Ajinkya Waghmare, co-coordinator of the Legal Aid Committee, efficiently coordinated the entire event.A total of 30 law students, 6 teaching staff, and 3 non-teaching staff from the college participated in the camp. The program began with the welcome of the chief guests, followed by interactive and simple legal guidance sessions conducted by students on topics such as Farmer Insurance Schemes, Land Rights, Women Protection Laws, Domestic Violence, Child Rights, Senior Citizens’ Rights, and the Role of the District Legal Services Authority.One of the major highlights of the event was a street play performed by the students, effectively portraying various legal issues in a relatable and impactful manner. As part of the camp, door-to-door visits were conducted to provide individual legal counseling, special discussion sessions for women, and distribution of legal awareness pamphlets.Showing their social commitment, the students also planted 10 saplings, conveying a message of environmental conservation. The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.Local representatives including Sarpanch Mrs. Sunita Yogesh Shinde, Deputy Sarpanch Mrs. Anusaya Shedge, and Police Patil Mr. Ravindra Vasant Takalkar warmly welcomed the students and appreciated the usefulness of the program.Organizers expressed their belief that such initiatives promote legal literacy in rural areas, strengthen social equality, and enhance public engagement with the law.
