New Delhi: Delhi Police‘s crime branch has arrested two major interstate drug traffickers and seized over one kilogram of high-purity heroin valued at more than Rs 5 crore in the international market. The duo were nabbed while delivering the consignment, which they had sourced from Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun, for distribution across Delhi-NCR. According to police, specific intelligence was received about a heroin consignment being transported into the city for distribution. “Acting on this tip-off, a team from Anti-Narcotics Task Force of crime branch launched a targeted surveillance operation. On July 1, the team conducted a raid near Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital on Zero Pusta Road, where they intercepted a white car during a suspected drug delivery,” said DCP (crime branch) Sanjeev Yadav. “The two occupants, later identified as 26-year-old Anas Khan and 27-year-old Sudheer Kumar, were caught in the act of handing over heroin to an associate linked to another suspect, Mohammad Faiz.” Searches conducted in compliance with the NDPS Act led to recovery of 1,053 grams of heroin — 527g from Khan and 526g from Kumar. The vehicle used in the delivery was also seized. A case was registered at the Crime Branch police station under sections of NDPS Act.“The two accused were part of a larger drug syndicate sourcing heroin from a supplier named Avnish, based in Badaun. While Khan is believed to be the primary operative coordinating procurement and supply chains, Kumar assisted with transportation and ground-level distribution,” a senior police officer said.During questioning it was revealed that Khan, a self-employed eucalyptus trader from Usait in Badaun, turned to narcotics trafficking under financial duress. Khan had one previous case registered against him related to physical altercation.
