Woman duped of 95,000 in online fraud | Pune News



Pune: Cybercrooks duped a woman from Nigdi of Rs 95,000 on the pretext of helping her to lodge a complaint with the customer care section of an e-commerce website.The fraud happened on April 26, when the woman tried to purchase a product online. Her order did not place, but the money was debited from her bank account.A Nigdi police officer said that after money was debited from her account, the woman contacted what she believed was the e-commerce site’s customer care. She found a number online and called it, but the caller redirected her to another number via a mobile messaging app, leading to further trouble.He said that when the woman contacted the number, the accused told her to change the settings on her cellphone and the mobile messaging app. He gained access to her cellphone. “The crooks then siphoned Rs 95,000 from the woman’s bank account and duped her,” he said.
