New Delhi: In a move aimed at addressing stagnation and boosting employee morale, Delhi govt’s services department has promoted 618 employees from the subordinate services and stenographer cadre by relaxing certain rules that had previously hindered timely career progression. According to officials, the decision is expected to enhance “motivation and work efficiency” among govt staff. Of the total promotions, 404 Group-II employees have been elevated to Group-I posts, 57 personal assistants promoted to private secretaries, and 157 stenographers have been advanced to the rank of personal assistant. Meanwhile, Delhi govt is also likely to issue appointment letters to 1,400 nursing candidates selected through Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board, in a bid to fill vacant posts in state-run hospitals. Officials said the promotion drive was undertaken under the guidance of LG VK Saxena. “LG has consistently said that govt employees are valuable assets who must be motivated to serve the public with dedication,” an official from the LG’s office said. As per existing rules, the 618 employees were originally eligible for promotion on Jan 1, 2026. However, following LG’s directions, the services dept proposed relaxing the minimum qualifying period and secured approval to take up the matter with the Union Public Service Commission. TNN
