Pune: MNS students’ wing chief Amit Thackeray on Friday demanded free hand to police to take strict action against drugs traffickers, accusing the state govt of remaining a mute spectator to trafficking of these in large quantities.“The quantity of drugs being trafficked to the state is quite alarming. There is something terribly wrong with the govt. It has failed to take action against the drug nexus. The problem is not limited to Mumbai. Every major city of the state is facing the problem,” Amit told reporters after arriving in the city for a three-day meet with the party workers. He said following interactions with various party workers in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, a detailed reportwould be submitted to the party chief, Raj Thackeray. “I am here to find out where the party is falling short in performance. Basedon the review, some organisational changes will be made in near future,” Amit said.Criticising the state govt for the recent deaths of two people because of alleged drugs overdose at a concert in Goregaon of Mumbai, Amit said, “The govt needs to give free hand to the police for a crackdown on the entire nexus. If the police take some strict action and set an example with the strictest possible punishment, I am sure, nobody will dare to get into drug trafficking in the state.”
