Pune: PMPML bus conductor Surekha Baliram Bhalerao suffered injuries to her leg after a passenger under the influence of alcohol assaulted her with a sharp weapon around 7.30pm on Wednesday after she told him to deboard the bus near Pune railway station.The incident occurred when Bhalerao was manning the PMC-Vimannagar bus.She lodged a complaint with the Bund Garden police on Thursday afternoon.“The bus was heading towards Vimannagar. The passenger boarded the bus and bought a ticket. However, he was continually causing discomfort to the other bus passengers by speaking loudly and making excessive noise. The annoyed passengers started complaining to Bhalerao about the drunk passenger and his conduct,” sub-inspector Dhiraj Gupta of the Bund Garden police told TOI.“Bhalerao then stopped the bus near Pune railway station and ordered the passenger to deboard. This enraged the passenger, and he pulled out a knife from his trousers and assaulted Bhalerao on her leg. The passenger walked away from the spot,” Gupta said.The PMPML conductor was taken to Sassoon General Hospital, where she received stitches.“We are studying CCTV cameras of the spot and adjacent areas to trace the movement of the passenger. We have obtained some leads,” he said.
