New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) is gearing up to host trials for its much-anticipated sports and extra-curricular activities (ECA) quota admissions for the 2025–26 academic session, likely scheduled between late July and early August. These trials are a mandatory part of the admission process, and students aspiring to secure a seat under these categories must not only register but also actively participate. As part of its undergraduate admissions procedure, the university has already opened the registration portal, requiring candidates under Sports and ECA quotas to upload relevant certificates online. Without these uploads, students will not receive trial invites. Importantly, only certificates issued between 2020 and 2024 will be considered valid, and a maximum of five certificates can be submitted for evaluation. Certificate verification will be carried out by the university to ensure authenticity. To help applicants navigate the process, DU recently held a detailed webinar where admission officials walked students through the key requirements. An official emphasised that separate merit lists would be drawn for Sports and ECA applicants. For Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2025, both certificate submission and physical trial participation are compulsory. The evaluation process is weighted heavily toward trial performance. In the sports category, 25% of the merit score will come from certificates, while 75% will be based on the trial. For ECA, the split is slightly different, with 30% for certificates and 70% for trials. The final merit will be calculated out of 100 marks, but depending on the course, students may be ranked out of 200 or 400.The official also issued a word of caution: “Uploading a certificate without appearing for the trial will disqualify the student from consideration under that quota.”The list of recognised activities is extensive. Sports categories include everything from archery, athletics, and cricket to kabaddi, judo, and chess. ECA categories span debate, music, drama, fine arts, digital media, NSS, and folk arts.
