Crooks siphon off 93L from Baramati-based medical practitioner’s accounts

Pune: A Baramati-based medicial practitioner cum general manager (42) of a hospital lost Rs 92.5 lakh from after crooks accessed two bank accounts and siphoned off the money on April 6.He lodged a complaint with the Baramati City police. An officer from the Baramati City police said on April 6, the medical practitioner found that Rs 48 lakh was transferred from the hospital’s account in a private bank and, on the same day, Rs 44.5 lakh was transferred from his savings bank account.“When the hospital’s manager enquired at the bank, he found that the amounts were transferred to a private bank’s account in Ranchi, Jharkhand,” the officer said.He said when the bank’s statement was checked it was found that Rs 44.5 lakh was transferred through four transactions from the medical practitioner’s bank account and Rs 48 lakh from the hospital’s bank account through three transactions.“The medical practitioner or the hospital’s officials were unaware of how the money was transferred,” he said. The officer said the police were investigating how the crooks gained access to these bank accounts.“We have launched an investigation into the case. We have also sought the details of the transactions from the bank,” the officer said.
