Garment shopowner from Maval taluka held on charge of voyeurism

Pune: The Pune Rural police on Wednesday arrested a garment shopowner from Maval taluka on the charge of voyeurism.According to police, the shopowner had set up a CCTV camera in the storeroom, where he sent a woman shopper to try some clothes before buying. The woman spotted the camera and reprimanded the owner, who threatened her with dire consequences.The woman on Tuesday approached the Pune Rural police and lodged a complaint against the shopowner. He was charged under sections 77 (voyeurism) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).An officer from the Pune Rural police said the accused runs a garment shop in Maval taluka. On March 16, the complainant went to the shop and wanted to try on some new clothes. “The owner sent her to the storeroom, claiming that there was no trial room. The woman noticed the CCTV camera in the storeroom,” the officer said.When the woman asked the owner about it, the latter threatened her.“Investigations revealed that the accused used to send women to the storeroom and used to record them,” the officer said, adding that police investigations are on.
