RTE admission, waiting list in two to three days, says primary education director | Pune News



Pune: Podar International School in Bibwewadi received the highest number of applications from parents seeking admission for their wards under the 25% reserved seats in private schools, as mandated by the Right to Education (RTE) Act, officials from the education department revealed on Monday.The announcement was made after the lottery draw for RTE admissions. The school received 2,094 applications for 69 seats.Sharad Gosavi, director of state primary education, said the list of eligible students and the waiting list will be announced in two to three days. “After that, the actual admissions will start,” said Gosavi.A total of 1,14,826 seats are available in 8,701 schools across the state, for which 2,89,609 applications were received this year.The draw for RTE admission was conducted by students of Pune Municipal Corporation’s Rajiv Gandhi E-Learning School during a programme presided by the education commissioner, Sachindra Pratap Singh, at the State Educational Research and Development Council auditorium.“In the past few years, there have been complaints of agents trying to get money by promising admission under RTE. I advise parents not to trust them, as the entire seat allotment is done completely online without human intervention. If irregularities are found, a telephone number will be made available to complain,” said Singh.
