Across civilizations, wealth has never been viewed as a mere accumulation of coins or currency, it has been revered as a living, breathing force, presided over by divine intelligence. As Meenakshi Agrawal, the Urban Energy Architect, Feng Shui, Vaastu, Vedic & Chinese Astrology expert explains, in India we invoke Lakshmiji, the radiant goddess of abundance, grace, and auspicious fortune, and Kubera, the celestial treasurer who safeguards material wealth.

In Chinese tradition, the God of Wealth, Cai Shen, is welcomed with reverence during the New Year, symbolising prosperity entering the home. The Japanese honour Daikokuten, a deity of fortune and commerce, while in ancient Greece and Rome, prosperity was personified through deities such as Plutus and Fortuna, embodying both wealth and its unpredictable flow.

Across cultures, one truth remains consistent: wealth is not random, it is invited, received, and preserved through alignment, intention, and respect for energy.

Your home, then, is not simply a physical dwelling. As Agrawal notes, it is a receiving vessel, a sacred container that holds the results of your effort, your decisions, and your destiny. It reflects not only how you earn money, but also how you retain and grow it. There are, in essence, two dimensions of wealth: cash flow and accumulated wealth. Cash flow represents movement, income, opportunities, liquidity. Accumulated wealth, on the other hand, is what remains, your savings, your investments, your stored value. A truly prosperous life depends on both: the ability to generate income and the wisdom to anchor and multiply it.

This is where Vastu and Feng Shui extend beyond aesthetics into strategy. As Agrawal emphasises, it is not enough to energise your home alone; your office or workspace must equally support the inflow of opportunities and financial growth. Wealth must first be earned, then stabilised, then invested, and finally expanded. Each stage requires energetic support.

Within the home, one of the most powerful anchors of wealth is the locker or safe. According to Agrawal, in Vastu, Kubera’s energy flows from the North, making directionality crucial. The locker should ideally be placed in the Southwest zone, symbolising stability and grounding, while opening towards the North, allowing wealth energy to enter and accumulate. It should be aligned along a north–south axis, reinforcing this energetic channel.

Equally important is the environment around it. As Agrawal advises, the locker must never be housed in a cupboard that contains shoes or clutter. It should be surrounded by neatly arranged clothing, reflecting respect and clarity.

Within it, place a red cloth or chunni, preferably one received from a temple, as it carries charged, sacred vibrations that amplify abundance. Store only real jewellery and meaningful assets, avoid artificial items, as they symbolically dilute value. You may also include carefully prepared wealth potlis or bowls imbued with intention and ritual significance.

On the night of Diwali, perform a dedicated puja for your locker, this is not merely symbolic, but a powerful energetic reset that invites Lakshmi into your financial space. This approach forms a core aspect of what Agrawal calls the Meenakshi Method: designing spaces that do not merely hold wealth, but actively grow it.

Beyond the locker, your living room holds another subtle yet potent activation point. As Agrawal explains, if you stand at your entrance and identify the farthest left-hand corner, you locate the Feng Shui wealth corner. This area must be immaculately clutter-free, as stagnation here directly reflects financial blockages. Introduce a healthy green plant, preferably with rounded, soft leaves such as a rubber plant or lucky bamboo.

Avoid anything with thorns, spikes, or aggressive growth patterns, as these disrupt the gentle expansion of wealth energy.

Subject to the precise directional alignment of your home, a water element may be introduced here, symbolising the flow and continuity of income. However, this must be done with care and ideally under expert guidance.

Finally, write down a clear, intentional statement of your financial desires, specific, grounded, and affirmative and place it beneath the plant. This act transforms the corner from a decorative space into a living field of intention.

Wealth, ultimately, is not created by objects alone. As Agrawal concludes, it is cultivated through alignment, of space, thought, and action. When your home begins to mirror order, respect, and readiness, it does not chase wealth, it receives it.
