Drunk car driver hits police motorcycle, injures pedestrian

Pune: A pedestrian, Muktar Farooq Hussain (35) from Katraj, was injured and a parked police motorcycle was damaged after a drunk driver rammed his car into them on the old Katraj ghat section around 6.15pm on Sunday.Police constable Abhijit Bathe (32), posted with the Ambegaon police, filed a complaint against the driver for rash and negligent driving and causing injury.“We detained the 33-year-old driver, a resident of Sahakarnagar, and later released him after issuing a notice,” inspector Gajanan Chormale of the Ambegaon police told TOI.“We conducted the car driver’s medical examination. The report confirmed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was heading towards Khed-Shivapur to meet his friends,” Chormale said.“Bathe was on patrol duty in the old ghat section of the Pune-Satara road. He had parked the patrol motorcycle by the roadside and stepped away when the car, travelling from Katraj towards the Katraj tunnel, hit the motorcycle and the pedestrian,” he added.The police motorcycle sustained damage to its rear tail lamp, siren, strobe lights and headlamp. “Hussain was taken to a nearby hospital and discharged after primary treatment,” Chormale said.
