Prison guard aspirant dies on police parade ground

Pune: A 23-year-old aspirant, who wanted to join state prisons’ department as a guard, collapsed and died while competing in the 1,600-meter race at the Shivajinagar police parade ground around 9.25am on Saturday.The deceased was identified as Purushottam Bhimrao Burkul of Deulgaon Raja in Buldhana district.The physical examination for the post of prison guards was being conducted by the Pune city police on Shivajinagar police parade ground.Additional commissioner of police (admin) Sanjay Patil said, “The aspirant completed the first three rounds, each of 400 meters on the ground. He was running the last round to complete the 1,600-meter race. However, he suddenly collapsed. We immediately shifted him to the Sassoon general hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival”.“The medical practitioners in the ambulance gave him CPR and tried to revive his pulse,” Patil said. An accidental death report has been registered with the Shivajinagar police station later in the evening.
