Pune: A software engineer (45) lost Rs 5 lakh to cybercrooks, who promised him a job as a senior director in a US-based financial technology company between March 3 and 20.The victim on Tuesday approached the Hinjewadi police and lodged a complaint.Inspector Rushikesh Ghadge of the Hinjewadi police said the complainant recently left his job and was looking for one.He had posted his resumes on different websites. The crooks, on March 3, contacted him and offered the post of a senior director in the financial technology company in the United States of America. “Initially, they took Rs 50,000 from the victim for registration and other charges,” Ghadge said.The officer said the crooks then took money from the victim by claiming his KYC was pending. “A few days later, the crooks contacted him and demanded Rs 2.5 lakh by claiming that they needed it for the medical treatment of their colleague’s daughter,” the officer said.Ghadge said between March 3 and 20, the techie transferred Rs 5 lakh to the bank account number provided to him. He realised that he was being duped when the crooks continued to demand more money without providing him with the job opportunity. “We have sought the details of the transactions from the victim’s bank,” Ghadge said.
