Pune: As many as 829 triple-seat riders were caught and fined in various parts of the city as the traffic police continued their drive for the second day on Wednesday.On Wednesday morning, additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil and deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Himmat Jadhav conducted a counselling session at the police headquarters in Shivajinagar for the 1,500 triple-seat riders caught on Tuesday. The offenders were explained the hazards of dangerous driving and also informed how to drive safely and carefully on city roads.Joint commissioner of police Ranjan Kumar Sharma said, “In the last two days, we have impounded 1,380 vehicles for repeatedly breaching traffic rules and for not responding to the fine messages by police. The motorists can pay the fines and take their vehicles.”As many as 40 FIRs have been registered against motorcycle riders for rash and negligent driving, he said. “We have in the two days collected Rs 43.53 lakh in fines from triple-seat riders and other motorists who violated traffic rules. Despite these actions, if the situation continues to remain the same on city roads, we will intensify our drive,” Sharma said.Police on Tuesday caught as many as 1,500 triple-seat riders on two-wheelers and imposed Rs 1,000 in fine on each offender in a crackdown that began at 9am and continued till late evening.
