72-Year-Old Woman Dies In Blaze At Jamia Nagar House

New Delhi: A 72-year-old woman died of suffocation after a fire broke out in her house in Jamia Nagar, south-east Delhi, on Wednesday, police said.Police got a call regarding the fire at Shaheen Bagh police station around 4.41 am.

Police found the house engulfed in flames in Abul Fazal Enclave-II. Four fire tenders and 4 ambulances were brought in. Some residents trapped in the building were rescued and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. During treatment, the elderly woman, identified as Fazila Kishwar (72), died. Prima facie, police said, the cause of death appeared to be suffocation from smoke inhalation. Kishwar also suffered from respiratory ailments, which may have worsened her condition. The fire also caused damage to vehicles parked near the building, including two cars, a motorcycle and a Scooty, police said.Firefighters brought the blaze under control, after which the area was cordoned off as a precaution. Police said legal action was being taken as per procedure, and an inquiry was on to ascertain the cause of the fire. In another incident, two people were injured after a fire broke out in a house in east Delhi’s Jagatpuri on Wednesday afternoon. The fire started around 1.30 pm in a house in Hazara Park, behind Chander Nagar School. Two tenders went to the spot soon to douse the flames.Delhi Fire Services said the blaze had broken out inside the house. When fire personnel reached the spot, they found thick smoke billowing from the first floor of the building. During the rescue, two persons were pulled out in an unconscious state.Both injured persons were immediately shifted to GTB Hospital.
