4 MPSC aspirants among 12 injured as drunk man sans licence on wheel crashes car into tea stall in Pune
The victims were caught between the door and the wall of the shop

PUNE: A novice driver in an inebriated state hit 12 youths, including four MPSC aspirants, before crashing a car into a tea stall’s door on Rajaram Mitra Mandal Road in Sadashiv Peth around 5.45pm on Saturday“All the injured people are out of danger. We have detained the car driver (27) and two others, including the car owner. We are registering a case against them,” said deputy commissioner of police Nikhil Pingale. A source in the police said the man on the commercial vehicle’s wheel was an employee of a pharmacy store. “The preliminary examination of the car driver, from Bibvewadi, and his co-passenger (27), from Indiranagar in Bibvewadi, revealed that they were drunk. The man who was driving the cab does not have a valid driving licence. The four-wheeler involved in the accident had a yellow number plate,” senior inspector Vijaymala Pawar of the Vishrambaug police said.The injured youths, mostly college students and MPSC (Maharashtra Public Service Commission) aspirants, were admitted to various hospitals in Sadashiv Peth and Shivajinagar. Pawar said, “The four MPSC aspirants have their examination (Group C combined examination) on Sunday. They suffered multiple fractures in their legs and have been admitted to a hospital in Shivajinagar.”The injured youths have been identified as Avinash Dadaso Phalke, Prathamesh Pandurang Patange, Sandeep Sunil Khopde, Sonali Sudhakar Gholve, Mangesh Atmaram Surwase, Amit Ashok Gandhi, Sameer Shripad Bhalchikar, Somnath Keshav Merukat, Prashant Brahmdev Bandgar, Kishore Haribhau Bhapkar, Payal Aadesh Kumar Durge and Gulnaz Siraj Ahmed. Senior police inspector Pawar said, “The cab owner had gone to the pharmacy store where his friends work. He got out of the vehicle to have a cup of tea, when the two pharmacy store employees sat in it. One of them started driving the vehicle on Vedacharya Phatak Guruji Road. The man on the wheel attempted to take a left turn towards Bhave School. Instead of brakes, he pressed the accelerator pedal and the four-wheeler hit the youngsters sitting and standing in front of the tea stall. We have seized the vehicle.” Rajesh Nimbalkar, the owner of the tea shop, Shree Nathsai Amrutulya, said, “The injured students and other youngsters were found between the door and the wall of the shop, and the car. They were screaming out of pain. Passersby gathered in large numbers and pulled the car away from the shop.
