NEW DELHI: Four members of a family were rescued by firefighters while four others, including women and a child, jumped from the first floor to save themselves after a fire broke out in a residential building in north east Delhi’s Dayalpur on Sunday. According to Delhi Fire Services, a call regarding the fire was received at around 3.50am. The blaze is suspected to have started in the parking area on the ground floor, where two scooters and a motorcycle caught fire. The resulting smoke rapidly spread to the upper floors of the building, which comprises a ground floor and five storeys and is built over an area of approximately 50 square yards.Before the arrival of fire tenders, four persons — Nikhat (22), Rashida (50), Soni (25), and a two-year-old child, Ashif — jumped from the first floor in an attempt to escape the smoke. They were taken to Jag Pravesh Chand Hospital, where they received first aid for minor injuries and were later discharged.Meanwhile, Delhi Fire Service personnel carried out rescue operations and safely evacuated four occupants — Suved (12), Duved (10), Aarifa (28), and Farah (14) — from the upper floors, including the second, third and fourth levels.The fire was brought under control, and fire units returned to their stations by around 6.20am.Officials said that the fire was mainly near the staircase and it was smoke that trapped the residents above. Earlier on Friday, six of a family including a 3 year old child were injured after a fire broke out in a residential building in north west Delhi’s Tri Nagar. In that incident too, a motorcycle near the staircase was on fire after electrical motor short-circuited and cosmetics items stored dangerously close caught on fire.
