Bhayandar: In a case of severe food poisoning, a 3-year-old girl died while five members of her family were admitted to hospital in an unconscious condition Sunday night in Bhayandar. While Bhayandar West police said doctors have prima facie confirmed a case of food poisoning, they have launched further investigation into the incident. The deceased victim has been identified as Dipali Maurya while her family members who are currently in hospital include father Ramesh, mother Neelam, sisters Chahat (8) and Anamika Maurya (6), and uncle Rajkumar. The Maurya family, residents of Bajrang Nagar in Bhayandar West, had bought food for dinner which they consumed along with home food. The incident came to light when one of their close relatives who lives in the neighbourhood got a call from their native place that no one in the family was answering their phones. The relative then went over Maurya’s residence and panicked when no one responded despite his loud and persistent banging on their door. Hearing the noise, their neighbours gathered and helped him kick the door open and saw the family members on the floor. A few of them had froth on their faces. All six victims were immediately rushed to Temba Hospital in the neighbourhood. While Dipali was declared dead on arrival, Chahat and Anamika were shifted to a Mumbai hospital. Neelam, Rajkumar and Ramesh are admitted at Temba Hospital. Senior police officer Jitendra Kamble said an in-depth investigation is underway to determine the cause of the tragedy and all possible angles are being looked into. “We have taken the samples of the foods they had on Sunday night and would be sent to the forensics team,” said Kamble. The items included boiled eggs, chicken gravy, rice and wada pav. Kamble said Ramesh worked in a local company and he had half day on Sunday. The cops have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and are taking the statements of family members who have all regained consciousness.
