Navi Mumbai: A daylong hearing took up 282 suggestions and objections on the proposed ward boundaries of the Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The closed door hearing was conducted by the designated officer and Raigad collector, Kishan Jawale. A former corporator from Kharghar, Leena Garad was among those who objected to the change in ward boundaries by removing part of Sector 12 from ward number 5. Two including a Taloja phase-I resident opposed the inclusion of Morbi village and Central Park surrounding area with around 3,000 voters added to ward number 3. The 20 wards collectively elect 78 corporators to the PCMC general body. The 2011 census data was used as data for this election. The civic body deputy municipal commissioner (election), Abhishek Paradkar said, “The suggestion and objection numbers on ward wise basis stands at Kamothe-194, Kharghar-48, Kalamboli-23, Panvel-11 and combined (more than one ward office or ward)- 6.”Sena (UBT) leader, Garad in her objection mentions that Kharghar ward number 4 was earlier comprising of Sector numbers – 11, 13, 14, 19, 20 & 21, ward number 5 having Sector numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 12 while ward number 6 had Sector numbers 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17 & 18. She alleged, “The 2017 ward boundaries were finalized based on Cidco made Sector numbers and on 2011 census data. Part of Sector 12 has been removed from ward number 5 just to harass me”. Another former corporator, Haresh Keni said, “The changes done to ward number 3 will have minimal impact in the election.” The final ward boundaries will be notified after obtaining approval from the state government.
