25-year-old man chased, stabbed to death; 5 held

New Delhi: A 25-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by a group of youngsters in Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri on Wednesday evening. CCTV footage shows him being chased and attacked in front of onlookers. Police have arrested a 19-year-old Delhi University student and apprehended four minors in connection with the case. The victim, a Mangolpuri resident, worked with his father at a local food cart. Police received a PCR call around 7 pm and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The one-minute CCTV clip shows a frantic chase ending with the man being cornered and stabbed repeatedly at a residential entrance. Several bystanders watched but did not intervene. An elderly man appeared with a stick as the attackers fled. The victim tried to seek refuge in a nearby house but was intercepted at the gate and stabbed about a dozen times. The assailants then dragged him back into the lane and continued the assault before escaping. A 24-year-old friend who was with the youth told TOI they were at a park with another friend when the group approached. “They attacked two of them. While one managed to escape, they caught hold of the other,” he said. The friend—an eyewitness—alleged jealousy was the motive and claimed the accused acted on instructions from an acquaintance currently in jail. Based on CCTV footage and local inquiries, outer district police subsequently apprehended three minors, while Crime Branch arrested the DU student and nabbed another minor. Police said the accused told investigators that the killing was an act of revenge, claiming the victim had set fire to a friend’s house about five months ago and had also been bullying them.
