2 shot in NE Delhi over enmity, no arrests yet

New Delhi: Two men were shot on Friday evening in northeast Delhi’s Harsh Vihar allegedly over a personal dispute. Police suspect the involvement of two brothers with whom the victims had a history of altercations. Nobody has been arrested yet.The victims were identified as Sudhir alias Bunty (35) and his friend Radhey Prajapati (30). Both injured were taken to a hospital, but died during treatment.Police received a PCR call about the gunfire at C block in Pratap Nagar, which is near Ghaziabad. A brief jurisdictional dispute arose between the Delhi and Ghaziabad police, but the case was eventually registered at Harsh Vihar police station under sections 103 (murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and under various sections of Arms Act. According to police sources, the duo was sitting near a parking lot when four men arrived on two vehicles. A heated argument ensued, during which the men were shot at. Rishi, who stays in the area, said he was sleeping when he heard a noise. Initially, he thought someone was bursting firecrackers. However, when he stepped outside, he saw that a crowd had gathered at the parking lot, which was full of blood. People present there told him that a shooting had taken place.The deceased’s mother, who had a shop nearby, said the assailants arrived and began abusing the two men. She was inside her shop when she heard a loud noise. Rushing out, she saw her son and his friend lying in a poll of blood at the parking lot.Police sources said the duo had an altercation a few days ago with the two brothers over some abusive remarks. It was also revealed that one of the victims had been jailed in connection with a 2015 murder case in Loni and was released in Aug. The authorities have sought details of the case from Ghaziabad Police. It emerged that last month, one of the victims and a suspect were placed under preventive custody by Uttar Pradesh Police. “We are also investigating whether the 2015 murder case was the motive behind this killing,” an officer said. A senior officer said multiple teams had been formed to crack the case and raids were being conducted to apprehend the accused. “CCTV footage from the spot and surrounding areas has also been reviewed to determine the routes taken by the suspects to escape,” he added.
