Mumbai: Police on Sunday arrested a woman called Kayanat Jabbar Shaikh-Qureshi (26) from her Dahisar residence in connection with a mephedrone seizure case, the first drug case in which the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) has been invoked. She had been hiding since the arrest of her nephew, Adnan Shaikh. Kayanat and Adnan used porters to deliver small MD packets, disguising them as routine movements to avoid detection. The drugs were supplied by absconding gang leader Jameer Ahmed Ansari alias Jamir Boka, who allegedly runs the syndicate. Police believe Kayanat’s arrest will help them trace him. Her husband, Jabbar Qureshi was arrested months ago with 500 gms of MD and is in jail.
